EXECUTIVE TEAM MEMBER
Communications Lead
Attendance: Build Days & Special Events + Weekly Meetings (virtual / in-person)
Hours Commitment: ~2-4 hrs per week for meetings and tasks, plus 7-10 hrs event days
Description
Project Ramadan is seeking a Communications Lead to join their Executive Team. This individual will guide the organization’s messaging strategy and ensure the organization’s voice is clear, consistent, and aligned with their mission. Working closely with other volunteers, the Communications Lead will support storytelling, public outreach, and relationship building across all communication channels.
Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee a communications strategy that supports the organization’s goals and brand
- Collaborate with Content Creators to support captions and ensure messaging is clear, accessible, and mission-aligned
- Write and edit content for newsletters, social media, and website updates
- Respond to emails and direct messages from supporters, media, and the public
- Write and distribute press releases, media statements, and outreach materials
- Ensure consistent tone, language, and branding across all public communication
- Support messaging for fundraising campaigns and events
- Build relationships with media contacts, community partners, and collaborators
- Lead public communication during urgent or crisis situations
- Keep up with media trends and follow news about food insecurity to adjust messaging as needed
- Track engagement data and suggest improvements to boost reach and impact
Qualifications
- Experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field
- Strong writing skills for both digital content and formal materials like press releases
- Able to lead, guide, and collaborate with communications volunteers
- Comfortable using tools like Mailchimp, Canva, Google Drive, and social media platforms
- Professional and thoughtful when responding to public or media inquiries
- Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple deadlines independently
